ABOUT
ME

Born and raised in Phoenix, AZ,  Mary Townsend worked as an Actor and Hair & Makeup Designer in the heart of the valley for many years. As of 2022, she now calls the windy city of Chicago her home, where she loves to ride bikes, eat great food, and avoid the winter weather! She dabbles in voice-over work, modeling, costume construction, and SFX blood-making which always keeps her landlord guessing. Mary can often be found curled up with her cat, Imogen, watching Grey's Anatomy reruns and dancing along to her 2000's Pop Hits playlist on Spotify.

Mary is a graduate from Arizona State University where she obtained her B.S. in Communication and a minor in Theater. In 2017, she spent the summer abroad at Shakespeare's Globe Theater in London, studying the history, language, application, and original practices of Shakespeare.

On this site, you can get to know Mary and view her work, both on and off stage, through a series of photos and her resumes. Also feel free to reach out in the Contact section to share your thoughts, love, or projects!

About

Reviews

"Mary Townsend positively soars in her role as Shauna, the more relatable girl in the clique. She brings out the vulnerability in Shauna that makes her feel truly human, even in her mean moments. Townsend has one of the clear standout performances of the play."
- PHX Stages (The BURN; Arizona Premier - Shauna)

"Mary Townsend is a real master of comedy in the roles of Vera, Evil Gabbi, and the Beholder. She has the audience in the palm of her hand any time she has a chance to speak, and both she and Amie Grace Falkner (Farrah/Evil Tina) get to show off some sick dance moves on several occasions."
- PHX Stages (She Kills Monsters - Vera, Evil Gabbi, The Beholder)

"With solid support from all technical areas, notably Dallas Robert Nichols’ atmospheric lighting, Mary Townsend’s creative bloodletting, and Peter Bish’s sound design ... the play succeeds as a live presentation in ways you may never have imagined."
- Valley Screen and Stage (Let the Right One In- Blood Design; Zoni Nomination)

"Mary Townsend's realistic make-up design for the Creature appears to have fresh blood congealed around the dozens of stitches on the his face."
- Talkin' Broadway (Frankentstein - SFX, Hair, and Makeup Design)

"Maci Hosler's lovely costumes and Mary Townsend's beautiful hair and make-up designs are period perfect."
- Talkin' Broadway (Pride@Prejudice - Wig & Makeup Design)
